🔑 Get Your Free AI API Key

Google's Gemini API is completely free for personal use. Here's how to get your key.

Open Google AI Studio

Click the button below to go directly to the API key page:

Sign in with any Google account (personal Gmail works fine).

Create API Key

Click the blue "Create API key" button.

If asked to select a project, choose "Create API key in new project" — this is the easiest option.

Copy Your Key

Your API key will appear. It looks like this:

Click the copy button next to the key.

Add to OpenClaw

Go to your OpenClaw dashboard:

  1. Click Settings in the sidebar
  2. Find AI Provider section
  3. Select Google Gemini
  4. Paste your API key and click Save

💡 Good to know

The Gemini API is free for up to 60 requests per minute — more than enough for personal use. No credit card required. Google may show you billing options, but you can skip them.

Common Questions

Is it really free?
Yes! Google offers generous free tier for the Gemini API. For personal use, you'll likely never hit the limits.
Do I need a credit card?
No. You can create an API key without adding any payment method.
Can I use a different AI provider?
Yes! OpenClaw also supports OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), and other providers. Just add the corresponding API key in Settings.
My key isn't working — what do I do?
Make sure you copied the entire key (it's about 39 characters). If you're still having issues, try creating a new key. Keys work instantly — no activation delay.
